The Cone Nebula

The Cone Nebula pictured by the Advanced Camera for Surveys which was installed in 2002. The image shows a dense cloud of gas and dust which resides some 2,500 light-years from Earth in the constellation Monoceros. The pillar is slowly being eroded by ultraviolet radiation from hot, young stars.
