Underground Art Moscow

Moscow has one of the most elaborate metro systems in the world. Each station has a different theme. The Kievskaya station, completed in 1937, is part of the Ring Line. Its walls have decoratively framed mosaics celebrating Russo-Ukrainian unity. Among them are Friendships of Russian and Ukrainian Farmers and Pushkin in Ukraine. The legend behind the Ring Line is that when Stalin was approving drafts of the plan for the metro, he set down his coffee cup on the draft, leaving a brown circle on the page. The engineers, perhaps fearful for their jobs, decided to turn the stain into a metro line.
